Five Steps to Smarter Training
Set Up Your Profile
Tell Strenua about your training experience, available equipment, and how many days per week you can train. This takes about two minutes. No account creation, no email, no sign-up forms — Strenua just needs to understand your starting point.
Your profile includes training age (beginner, intermediate, advanced), equipment access (full gym, home dumbbells, bodyweight), session frequency (2-6 days per week), and any exercise preferences or limitations.
Intelligence Generates Your Program
Strenua builds a complete training program using CoreML on your iPhone's Neural Engine. No internet connection required. The program is structured around periodization principles — each session has a specific purpose within your training block.
The generator considers muscle recovery status, volume landmarks (MEV, MAV, MRV), exercise selection based on available equipment, and your current training phase (accumulation, intensification, or deload).
Train With Precision
Each workout comes with prescribed exercises, sets, reps, and weight targets. Log your performance as you train — the app tracks your RIR (Reps in Reserve) to gauge true effort and adjust future sessions accordingly.
The interface is designed for the gym floor: large touch targets, minimal navigation, automatic rest timers. Every rep you log feeds back into the intelligence model for your next session.
Automatic Progression
After each session, Strenua recalculates your training variables. Weight increases are applied progressively (capped at 7% per session to prevent injury). Volume is adjusted based on your recovery and performance trends.
The system uses the Brzycki and Epley formulas to estimate your one-rep max from training data, then prescribes loads as a percentage of estimated 1RM with RIR-based autoregulation.
Intelligent Adaptation
Strenua doesn't just add weight to the bar. It monitors your performance across mesocycles, detects when you're approaching your Maximum Recoverable Volume, and automatically programs deload weeks when needed.
The recovery model tracks per-muscle fatigue using frequency-aware supercompensation curves. When accumulated fatigue exceeds recovery capacity, Strenua shifts to a deload phase with reduced intensity (80% of normal) before ramping back up.
Built on Science, Not Hype
Periodization
Training is organized into mesocycles with distinct phases: accumulation (building volume), intensification (increasing load), and deload (managed recovery). Each phase serves a specific physiological purpose.
Volume Landmarks
Strenua tracks three critical thresholds per muscle group: Minimum Effective Volume (MEV), Maximum Adaptive Volume (MAV), and Maximum Recoverable Volume (MRV). Training between MEV and MRV is where growth happens.
Autoregulation
Instead of rigid percentages, Strenua uses RIR (Reps in Reserve) to autoregulate intensity. This accounts for daily readiness fluctuations — some days you're strong, some days you're not. The program adapts in real time.
Recovery Modeling
A supercompensation model tracks recovery status per muscle group, factoring in training volume, intensity, frequency, and time since last stimulus. Strenua won't program a muscle group that hasn't recovered.
Your Data Never Leaves Your Device
Every fitness app asks you to create an account. Every fitness app sends your workout data to their servers. Strenua doesn't. The intelligence models are bundled with the app — they run on Apple's Neural Engine, process your data locally, and never transmit anything. There is no server. There is no database with your personal records. Your training intelligence belongs to you.
This isn't a feature we added as an afterthought. It's an architectural decision that informed every line of code. On-device processing through CoreML means your data is protected by the same hardware encryption that secures your Face ID and Apple Pay data.
